EXCLUSIVE: Alexander Rynéus of the Duo of Swedish director and obsessive Bifrost documentary Once you have one of those who have lived for a long time won glowing criticism during his first at the Edinburgh International Film Festival last month.
The work, on a dying mining community in northern Sweden, made its national debut this weekend in the Nordisk Panorama Film Festival in Malmö and on the deadline can reveal the international trailer.
Located in the city which slowly disappears from Malmberget in the north of Sweden, the documentary explores what remains when a place disappears – not only physically, but emotionally and culturally.
Built at the top of one of the largest iron ore mines in Europe, the land under the city were dug by a large mining exploitation making parts of the one living.
Malmberget is dismantled piece by piece, leaving behind windows on board, demolished houses and empty streets. However, in the middle of the ruins, life continues – quietly reshaping while nature begins to recover the earth.
At the heart of the film are the last residents of the city, holding a feeling of a house while the floor under them collapses. Their personal stories speak of broader global realities: communities around the world are erased by industry, climate change and political decisions.
The filmmakers, who started their artistic relationship with Malmberget in 2013 with Malmberget – The house and the cavityreturned in 2019 to document the dissolution of the city. Their follow -up, Fragmented time Mixed poetic observation and emotional intimacy, capturing lives in transition with sensitivity and atmospheric details.
