What you eat does not cause gastritis, says the National Institute of Diabetes and digestive and renal diseases. But certain substances and foods can irritate the mucosa of your stomach and cause an escape from gastritis symptoms, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Understanding what foods trigger symptoms of gastritis is one of the first stages of potential discomfort or pain prevention. Some people suffering from gastritis have no symptoms, but others may experience superior abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, acid reflux, unkindibly full sensation after eating or loss of appetite.

Hardeep M. Singh, MD, gastroenterologist and medical director of endoscopy at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange, California, explains that alcohol can be irritating for those who suffer from gastritis. In addition, spicy foods and caffeine can trigger discomfort or pain associated with rockets of gastritis. (These symptoms can be worse if you also have food allergies.)
