DIY natural foundation powder

Cocoa powder is ideal for making homemade nutella (healthier), but it is also ideal for adding an antioxidant boost to your skin care routine. Many years ago, one of my friends shared that she used cocoa powder as a natural tan. I started experimenting with makeup and I found this natural DIY foundation powder.
This foundation powder is similar to the mineral makeup that you find on many pharmacy shelves. However, he jumps some of the ingredients that are not so good for our health.
How to make foundation powder
I start with an arrow powder and zinc oxide base. You can use the GMO cornstarch, but I find that Arrowroot works better. It offers a nice shift and feels so silky on my skin. Then add cocoa powder for color and a little gold mica for the sparkle. I discovered that the addition of gold mica powder gives it an even smoother texture and makes my skin radiant.
You can also mix cinnamon powder for a brighter shade. Be careful here, however, because cinnamon powder has volatile oils irritating to sensitive skin. It took me some mixing tests so that the color is correct for my complexion.
There are a lot of variations in this recipe … Creating homemade makeup is more an art than a science. Your exact color and basic combinations will depend on the quantity of cover and color you want. Zinc oxide as a base will create a very similar makeup to mineral make -ups purchased in store. The addition of mica powder will give the skin a natural “light”.
I used a mixture of three different natural clay powders in this recipe. They help control shine, improve imperfections and balance color. You can use what you have, but I would avoid everything with a gray or red tone, because these would eliminate the color too much.
How to use natural foundation powder
As it is a powder, I find that it generally works better when applied to (quite) freshly hydrated skin, especially for those with drier skin types. When I used the oil cleaning method, my skin was very hydrated and I had no problem sticking this. You may need to apply the primer, the liquid foundation, the lotion or a thin layer of oil on your face before applying it. Just make sure he has a few minutes to absorb or you will get streaks!
If you already have oily skin, it should help balance things.
You can also use it as an adjustment or finish powder for your makeup routine. I keep mine in a reused glass jar or a powder container and I use a brush to apply. Most of the time, a quick brush is everything I need!
DIY natural foundation powder
This simple to make foundation powder can be personalized according to your exact complexion.

Mix the zinc oxide, the arrow powder and the clay in a mixture to mix and whisk gently.
-
Add the mica and cocoa powder until you get your desired shade. Start with the smallest quantity and add more.
-
Test the powder color on your inner arm and adjust until you get what you like.
- Keep in a small glass jar with a lid and use a brush to apply.
- This will last at least a year if it is stored far from direct light and humidity.
A note on the mica
There has been some controversy on mica powder and if it is really natural or safe. Mica is a natural mineral in the same family as quartz. It can also be made in a laboratory.
There was also a discussion on ethics behind its supply. Mica is often extracted under dangerous conditions by workers’ children. The mica that I use avoids these problems and sources only from places where no child work is used at any time in the process. If you prefer not to use it, you will always have an excellent foundation powder without it.
An even simpler version
If you prefer, you can simply use Arrow-Root (or Kaolin clay) powder, cocoa powder and a pinch of cinnamon powder (optional). This will create a formidable and completely natural base. The only drawback is that it will not remain as long as a powder with zinc oxide and mica. I feel safe using zinc oxide on my skin (non-nano and not clothed) but if you don’t, try the Arrowroot version.
