Today we have an exclusive clip from “Road to Atonement,” in which Jonathan (Ethan Kai) opens up to Samuel (Stephen Lang) about his goal. We then see Samuel advise him to become David’s (Michael Iskander) greatest ally.

Earlier this year, we spoke with Lang about his role on the series and what attracted him to Samuel:

“Well, I don’t know if you know this, but every actor has a mental list of genres they have to fall into. My biblical box hasn’t been checked for a long time, you know? I’ve been waiting for the right biblical role for me, it seems. Who knows, if John the Baptist had come first, maybe I would, but I think I was destined to play a Nazarene.”

“Anyway, I was asked to do this and it’s a story that I think we all have some familiarity with. It’s a story that I’ve always thought about a lot, and most importantly, it had a lot to do with Saul. I remember, even as a boy, when we were taught this story, I felt a tremendous amount of pain for Saul.”

“I never really understood it, so they asked me if I was going to play the role and I had discussions with Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn, the producers and directors, and we had a long session together where I asked, I think, good questions and tough questions and they gave very good answers. I came away from that meeting feeling like I was dealing with very creative and open-minded people. In fact, that proved to be the case when we worked on it together.”

“They gave me an enormous amount of advice, but they also gave me enormous latitude to find the human being here, beyond the historical aura or the legendary figure and the icon, to really try to find the individual and the man there. It was a great pleasure to go on this particular journey.”
