Dinosaur of 95 million years of 95 million people discovered in Argentina

Paléontologists from Patagonia, Argentina, found part of a postcranial skeleton which belonged to a rebachisaurid sauropod dinosaur, previously unknown.

The newly discovered dinosaur lived in what is now Argentina at the end of the Cretaceous era, about 95 million years ago.

Scientifically appointed Astigmasaura GénuflexaThe species was about 18 m (59 feet) long and weighed more than 10 tonnes.

The former giant was a member of Rebachisauridae, a large family of dinosaurs of Sauropod in the superfamille Diplodocoidea.

“Rebachisauridas are large, non -selective and soil browser browser diplodocoid sauropods, and they are characterized by highly specialized skulls, largely pneumatized axial elements and gracile annexed skeletons,” said

“Known of the primitive Cretaceous at the beginning of the upper Cretaceous, the Fossil rebachisaurid file is particularly diversified in the former supercontinent Gondwana, with several specimens found in North Africa and South America.”

“In particular, Patagonia has sold more than half of all known renames, including the first forms and the youngest renamelids remain to date.”

The fossilized remains of Astigmasaura Génuflexa were found in the locality of El Orejano of the formation of Huincul in the Neuquen basin, Patagonia, Argentina.

“The type of material of Astigmasaura Génuflexa Includes the posterior part of a postcranian articulated skeleton of a morphologically adult individual, “said paleontologists.

The new species was one of the last Rebbachisaurid dinosaurs before their extinction 90 million years ago.

“”Astigmasaura Génuflexa Sharing different conditions with other renamesauridae, including anterior caudal vertebrae with large neuronal thorns and tetraradied neuronal lamellae, asymmetrical medium healal arcs, proximal tibias compressed by mediolaterally and a femur with medically inclined distal condyles, “said the researchers.

“Furthermore, Astigmasaura Génuflexa shows a unique combination of diagnostic characteristics that distinguish it from all other Sauropods. »»

“This new file not only provides new morphological information on the anatomy of the Caudal and Pelvic belt of Rebbachisauridae, which is poorly known to date, and suggests greater taxonomic diversification within the family during the last stages of its evolutionary history than before.”

The article of the team published online in the newspaper Cretaceous search.
