A mark of the popularity of Diogo Jota with Liverpool fans was how much a song about it sounded in the stands – even when it was not on the ground.
The former adviser of Liverpool, Peter Millea, a regular from the house and the outside, said that the formidable personality of Jota, the relatable personality, had resonated with his colleagues fans as well as his talent.
He told Marc Gaier de la BBC: “There was something in him as a player when he came for the first time that he became an instant success.
“He was one of those players that you can easily take, because of the way he drove on and off the field and the important objectives he has marked.”
Mr. Millea said that some Anfield fans had transformed into impromptu song interpretations while paying tribute to them.
“I am sure that we will hear it loud and clear in Wembley for the community shield and we will hear it in Preston for the first pre-season match, you know that it will be sung on the field against Bilbao athletic, then during the rest of the season and probably forever,” he said.
