Ryder Cup captain: Keegan Bradley ‘would like’ another chance to lead Team USA after defeat to European team leaves ‘darkest period’ | Golf news

Keegan Bradley insists he would “love” the opportunity to captain Team USA at a Ryder Cup again, after being left with a “gaping hole” in his career following their loss to the European team.
Bradley became the first captain – of both teams – since 2012 to be beaten in a home Ryder Cup, where Luke Donald’s European team built a record lead over the first two days before securing a 15-13 victory at Bethpage Black.
The PGA of America has not yet announced who will captain the U.S. team at the 2027 competition at Adare Manor in Ireland. live on Sky Sportswith Bradley open to the idea of returning to the role in the future.
“I have this gaping hole in my career now that I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to fill it,” Bradley said before the Hero World Challenge. “It’s not something where you lose the Masters or a tournament, where I’m going to work really hard to come back and win.
“Being captain of the Ryder Cup team isn’t something you can work hard for, it’s just something that’s kind of elected to you. Of course, I’d love to do it again, I’d love to avenge that loss, but it’s not up to me.
“I don’t think it’s fair of me to come here and say this, but I would love to do it again at some point. I don’t know if it will ever happen, probably not. I think if you ask any losing captain if they would like to do it again, they would all want another chance.”
Tiger Woods is the favorite to be the next Team USA captain, but said earlier this week that “no one asked” for him to take on the role, two years after turning down the opportunity due to his role on the PGA Tour.
“I think if Tiger wants to do that, he’ll do it,” Bradley insisted. “Tiger is not only a hero to all of us who would be a part of his team, but he is also an incredible leader and someone everyone would love to play for.
“I’m pretty sure when he wants to do that, he’ll be able to do it.”
Bradley: Ryder Cup ‘takes a toll on you’
Bradley was considering being the first captain to play in a Ryder Cup since Arnold Palmer in 1963 before leaving himself out of his six picks, after winning the Travelers Championship in June and reaching the season-ending Tour Championship.
“With everything that happened, I’m really proud of the way I played,” Bradley said of his season. “But when you factor in the Ryder Cup loss, I mean, it’s an F.
“You have to go out there and win and this grade is different. It’s really hard to get a grade. It was a unique year. I think a year that no other player has ever had. I’m definitely proud of the way I played, but the end of the year was tough.”
Regarding the challenge of losing the Ryder Cup, Bradley added: “It’s probably the darkest time of my life. I mean, I don’t know how else to describe it. Definitely, definitely [the worst] of my career.
“There’s always that disappointment after a Ryder Cup or a Presidents Cup, whatever the result, because the emotions are so extreme. It’s the hangover from the Ryder Cup and you’re just exhausted and depressed – it takes a toll on you.”
