Diane Keaton dead: celebrity reactions, Hollywood tributes

Hollywood mourns the loss of Diane Keaton.
The Oscar-winning actress, known for her roles in Annie Hall, THE Godfather trilogy, Father of the bride, Something has to give And The First Wives Club — died Saturday in California at the age of 79. The cause of his death is not yet available.
Following the news of his death, many of his former co-stars, industry figures and stars took to social media to share their tributes.
Robert De Niro shared a statement with The Hollywood Reporter, who says: “I am very sad to learn of Diane’s death. I loved her very much and the news of her departure completely surprised me. I did not expect that she would leave us. We will miss her. May she rest in peace.”
Bette Midler, who starred alongside Keaton and Goldie Hawn in 1996 The First Women’s Club, wrote on Instagram: “The brilliant, beautiful and extraordinary Diane Keaton has passed away. I can’t tell you how unbearably sad this makes me. She was hilarious, completely original and completely devoid of the guile or competitiveness one would expect from such a star. What you saw was who she was… oh, la, lala!”
Additionally, Hawn’s daughter and actress Kate Hudson shared a clip of three women in the film with the caption: “We love you so much Diane.”
Steve Martin, with whom she performed in 1991 Father of the brideshared an excerpt from a 2021 interview she did with Martin Short for Interview magazine, in which Short asks Keaton, “Who’s hotter, me or Steve Martin?” and Keaton responds, “I mean, you’re both idiots.” Martin captioned the post: “I don’t know who posted this first, but it sums up our lovely relationship with Diane.”
Keaton Book club co-star Candice Bergen said in a statement to THR“This is a huge loss both personally and for all of us. Diane was a true artist – extremely gifted and uniquely talented in many disciplines, but also modest and wonderfully eccentric. I will miss her terribly.” Mary Steenburgen also shared a statement with THRwhich said: “Diane was magical. There was no one and there will never be anyone like her. I loved her and felt blessed to be her friend. My love for her family. What a wonder she was!!!”
Leonardo DiCaprio, who played Keaton’s nephew in Marvin’s room (where she earned one of her four Oscar nominations), posted a tribute on her Instagram Stories. “Diane Keaton was one of a kind. Brilliant, funny and unapologetically herself,” he wrote alongside a photo of him and Keaton. “A legend, an icon and a truly kind human being. I had the honor of working with her when I was 18. She will be greatly missed.”
