The secretary of the Ministry of Internal Security (DHS), Kristi Noem, said on Friday that she and her staff were denied entry into a government building in a suburbs of Chicago, where they had tried to stop for a “bathroom break” while federal agents ran up against demonstrators outside a nearby immigration establishment.

In an article on X, Noem said that his team had been denied access to the municipal building in the village of BroadView, located about 12 miles west of the city center of Chicago, and castigated the administration of the Governor of Illinois JB Pritzker for his treatment of federal agents.

“My team and I were prevented from accessing the municipal building in the village of BroadView in Illinois,” said Noem. “We stopped for a quick bathroom break. This is a public building. The village of BroadView receives at least $ 1 million in federal funding each year. This is how JB Pritzker and his friends treat our police. Absolutely shameful.”

A video of the meeting shows that Noem approaches the building with his staff like a person asks by the door: “Can we use your toilet?”

Someone inside can be understood to answer: “No, you can’t!” Before Noem calmly answers: “Ok, okay, thank you” and moves away.

Village officials said Noem appeared unexpected on Friday morning to request a meeting with Mayor Katrina Thompson, who was out of the building at the time.

“Since the secretary of the DHS, Kristi Noem, appeared this morning, unexpectedly, in the village hall of Broadview requesting a meeting while the mayor Katrina Thompson was out of the building, the mayor returned her visit,” said the spokesperson for the village of Broadview, David Ormsby, in a statement.

“Mayor Thompson went to the Ice Center, accompanied by the BroadView Police chief Thomas, and the officers, to request that the illegal closure be dismantled. The mayor was informed by the door agents that the secretary was not available to meet.”

However, DHS officials insisted that the judgment did not affect a meeting at all.

“She did not ask for a meeting. She asked to use the toilet. It’s crazy,” DHS deputy secretary for public affairs Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News.

The bathroom dispute came while tensions outside the United States treatment installation and customs application (ICE) on BroadView, where more than a dozen people were arrested by federal agents during demonstrations. Fox News observed agents pulling pepper balls, tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowds blocking federal operations.

Earlier Friday, Governor Pritzker accused Noem of supervising the federal application tactics which, according to him, had violated the rights and traumatized the families of Illinois. He also said that she should “no longer be able to intervene in the state of Illinois without any form of public responsibility”.

“The last time the secretary was here, she slipped early in the morning to film social media videos and fled before sunrise,” said Pritzker’s office. “It has been almost 45 days since secretary Noem has held an official press conference, so it is time for her to face the public and takes matters from the press to be held responsible for the raw misconduct of the Trump administration.

“Illinois is not an opportunity for a photo or a war zone, it is a sovereign state where our people deserves rights, respect and responses.”

McLaughlin resumed on behalf of the DHS, accusing Pritzker of not having protected the residents of Illinois against violent offenders.

“Growing up and starting to protect people by your own state,” McLaughlin said in a statement. “Federal police must be here because JB Pritzker refuses to do his job and has allowed violent illegal foreign criminals to terrorize the Illinois communities for years.”

The village of BroadView did not immediately respond to the request for comments from Fox News Digital.
