Detroit Lions vs Philadelphia Eagles: NFL predictions, odds

Detroit Lions @ Philadelphia Eagles Preview

The Philadelphia Eagles (7-2) look to extend their winning streak to four games when the NFC East leaders host the Detroit Lions (6-3) at the NFL’s Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, pitting two of the teams that were scheduled to play in last season’s NFC Finals.

Aided by three touchdowns from Jared Goff, the Lions followed up their loss with a victory for the second time in a month by beating the Washington Commanders 44-22 last Sunday, a day before the Eagles won 10-7 against the Green Bay Packers after neither team scored at halftime, recording their lowest score of the season.

“You have to have a sense of urgency and a mindset to put what you did the week before in the past and move on and try to get better,” running back Saquon Barkley said, adding that the Eagles would have similar discussions “regardless if we score 10 points or 40.”

“It’s just the nature of this business. You’ll never play a perfect game. The defense came out and played big for us. We know we have to get better.”

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith and running back Saquon Barkley celebrate a touchdown.

Tight end Sam LaPorta, who has 40 receptions, 489 receiving yards and three touchdowns this season, is out with a back injury for the Lions, and potential replacement Brock Wright is among a long list of injury doubts alongside Taylor Decker, Amik Robertson, Jacob Saylors, Penei Sewell and Sione Vaki.

“Brock is a guy that doesn’t get talked about a lot, but he’s a jack of all trades,” Detroit head coach Dan Campbell said.

“He does everything for us: pass protection, run blocking, he can run certain routes, he plays special teams. He’s one of the most reliable players we have on this team.”

Wright has nine receptions this season for 71 yards with two touchdowns.
