“Bosch” Prequel Series “Beginning of the Watch” Approved by MGM+

THE Bosch the Amazon universe continues to expand with a prequel series for MGM+, Bosch: Beginning of the watchwith Cameron Monaghan (Shameless) and Omari Hardwick (Power). The premium linear channel and streaming service has given the green light to the spinoff, which explores the origin story of Michael Connelly’s detective Harry Bosch, played by Titus Welliver in the original. Bosch series and its sequel Bosch: Legacy.

Monaghan will reprise the role, playing rookie cop Harry Bosch, while Hardwick will play his training officer, police veteran Eli Bridges, a new character not featured in the book’s mythology. There is no direct source material for Start of the watch since Connelly’s novels do not contain Bosch prequel, although pieces of Harry’s early years are implanted in various in-universe books, with Connelly calling the prequel “uncharted character territory”.

Bosch: Beginning of the watchfrom MGM+ Studios, travels back to Los Angeles in 1991 and follows 26-year-old Harry Bosch in his early days as a rookie cop. The series will explore a city on the edge, full of racial tension, gang violence and a fractured LAPD. Amid routine calls and escalating unrest, Bosch finds himself drawn into a high-profile heist and a web of criminal corruption that will test his loyalty to the badge and shape his future as a detective who lives by the code “Everyone counts or no one matters.”

Produced by Fabel Entertainment, the series is co-created and produced by Bosch: the legacy co-developer/executive producer Tom Bernardo and Legacy co-executive producer Brian Anthony, with Bernardo serving as showrunner. Connelly, Henrik Bastin, Jamie Boscardin Martin and Jasmine Russ also executive produce. Theresa Snider is co-executive producer for Hieronymus Pictures. Seth Yanklewitz is the casting director.

Like all previous series in the franchise — Bosch, Bosch: the legacy and fallout Ballard with Maggie Q, which was just renewed for season 2 by Prime Video — Bosch: Beginning of the watch will film in Los Angeles, where the books take place. The prequel recently received a tax credit from the California Film Commission alongside Ballard Season 2. Submitted as “Project 2997 S1” Start of the watch received a credit of $11.6 million against eligible local expenditures of $33.2 million.

This is the fourth series of the Bosch franchise and third centered on Harry Bosch. All three come from different Amazon platforms. The mothership Boschthe longest-running series on Prime Video, has released seven seasons on the flagship streamer. Following Bosch: the legacy, which lasted three seasons, started on Amazon Freevee before migrating to Prime Video. Bosch: Beginning of the watch is heading to MGM+.

In Start of the watch, Harry Bosch, an intensely observant, stoic and unyielding young man, is a probationary patrol officer with the LAPD. He possesses all the qualities that will mark his legendary career: he is intelligent, relentless, determined, fiercely protective of victims of crime.

Training Officer Bridges (Hardwick) is a Vietnam veteran, a seasoned, salty and brutal cop who mentors Harry through the mean streets of Los Angeles and the complicated world of the LAPD. Bridges is fighting a war in the streets and looking for soldiers, and they don’t come any brighter than Hieronymus Bosch.

“It’s a tremendous privilege to be able to explore both the origins of this iconic character and the Los Angeles that formed him in the early 1990s,” Bernardo said. “By telling the story of young Harry Bosch, we want to honor the faith of Michael Connelly’s legion of readers and the incredible audiences who listened Bosch And Bosch: the legacy over the years. Taking the prequel series route, Bosch follows in the footsteps of crime dramas such as CBS’s NCIS (with NCIS: Origins) and Showtime Right hand (with Dexter: Original Sin).

Bastin called the opportunity to film Bosch: Beginning of the watch in Los Angeles “a rare privilege these days”.

Bosch: Start of the watch, A portion of MGM+’s programming focused on classic Hollywood storytelling aimed at modern audiences will be available on the platform in the United States, United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Spain, Latin America, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Monaghan is probably best known for his decade-long portrayal of Ian Gallagher on the popular Showtime series. Shameless, which earned him a nomination at the Critics Choice Awards. He also played the Valeska twins in Fox’s Gotham. In feature films, he is currently seen in Tron: Ares. Monaghan is repped by UTA, Amplified and Goodman Genow Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher. .

Hardwick is known for his starring role as James “Ghost” St. Patrick on the hit Starz series. Power and for playing Vanderohe in Zack Snyder’s film army of the dead. He recently starred opposite Michelle Yeoh in Paramount+’s Star Trek: Section 31. Hardwick is replaced by UTA and Sloane, Offer, Weber and Dern

Bernardo, a Bosch franchise veteran who worked on the Mothership series before moving on to Legacy and also had a stint on Netflix Lincoln Lawyer, is replaced by Verve and Hansen Jacobson Teller.
