Deontay Wilder ‘signs contract’ for next fight as heavyweight teases big event

Deontay Wilder is expected to return in January after signing on the dotted line for his next outing.

The “Bronze Bomber” made his return earlier this year in a routine stoppage victory over compatriot Tyrrell Herndon in June.

Wilder is looking for the biggest fights available in the sport with limited time on the clock.

It is considered the last chance saloon for the devastating knockout artist, who has yet to fully rebound from two straight losses to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang.

He has been heavily linked with blockbuster matchups against former UFC champion Francis Ngannou and bitter rival Anthony Joshua.

And now, in a teasing update, Wilder has revealed that he has already made his next fight official and will announce the opponent in due course.

He said during a live stream: “I have something coming. We’re looking in January.

“I already signed the contract. I can’t [give] no details yet, but it’s definitely live.

“It’s going to happen. I’ve got a big year next year, I’m looking forward to it, all I can say is two. Let’s go.”

Wilder’s opponent has yet to be revealed, but he has hinted that he will be looking for a way back to a world title shot.

To do this, the veteran will have to fight at least a top-15 ranked opponent.

Who could Deontay Wilder fight when he returns?

There are a multitude of options available for Wilder, which include two blockbuster names.

It was previously unclear whether the “Bronze Bomber” would jump straight into a huge fight, with his manager Shelly Finkel previously suggesting he would jump into another tune-up fight first.

But Wilder and Ngannou, who have now boxed Joshua and Tyson Fury, are both open to a return to the ring in a battle between the powerhouses.

Both men verbally agreed to a fight on social media, but it is unclear if an official agreement has been reached.

Another key option could be Joshua, who is yet to make a return since his loss to Daniel Dubois.

The two previously reached an agreement to touch gloves in 2024, but Wilder lost and derailed the fight.

Joshua suggested that he too could return in January, and that a fight would still generate huge commercial interest.
