Dennis Lehane adapts the remake of the Finnish hit “100 liters of gold”

The Dennis Lehane production company, Hans Bubby, has acquired the rights of English -speaking remake for the Finnish dramatic “100 liters of gold”.

Directed by Teemu Nikki, he deals with a serious problem: there is nothing to drink and a wedding is at the corner of the street. The Taina and Pirkko sisters promised to prepare 100 liters of their famous auto-brazed beer, Sahti. Their new lot is so tasty that they drink everything themselves – the day before the event. Now they must “obtain” 100 other liters by all the necessary means.

The film, produced by It’s Alive Films, was presented in Finland in March 2025, and quickly became the most watched national film of the year so far. Nikki is also behind “Euthanizer”, the Oscar entrance to Finland in 2018, and “The Blind Man who did not want to see Titanic” from Venice. His short “All inclusive” was presented in Cannes in 2019.

“It’s hilarious, scandalous and concerned about people who live on the fringes. My favorite kind of story,” said Lehane. “I launched her to my partner, Mackenzie Pietzak, almost the day I returned to the United States, she fell for her as hard as I was, and we decided to try an American remake.”

Previously, Lehane wrote the scenario of the Fox Searchlight functionality “The Drop”, based on its new original, and created the Apple “Black Bird” series with Taron Egerton. Its new original series “Smoke” will be presented on Apple TV + on June 27.

“I received an email from a guy called Dennis when I was visiting the Colosseum during the Rome Film Festival. I answered something stupid and I realized later that this” Dennis “was actually Dennis Lehane. And then I called Jani to check if I dreamed,” recalls Teemu Nikki.

“It’s fantastic that a writer with such a high profile is interested in our film. I feel like a fanboy!

While the film takes place in the hometown of Nikki, “local is global”, he argued.

Pösö agreed: “The whole world is full of places where the community is rolled around this thing. The best tomatoes in the world, the best footballer in the world. [Finnish municipality] SYSMä is soup. The themes that we manipulate here are universal: sometimes you just have to leave to be able to live. »»

Although it was already critically acclaimed, the team did not expect to put the box office on fire.

“We, the Finlands, do not easily train. It took them ten years to find our films and enjoy our humor,” joked Nikki, while Pösö credited the Marketing and Distribution Strategy of the Finnish distributor Nelonen.

“I think there are at least three things. First, the film is really good, perhaps the best we have done so far. Second, we have sank our heads against the wall for a long time – now the wall went.”

These are living films products with I Wonder Pictures d’Italie and Smile Entertainment du Denmark. A production company based in Helsinki, It’s Alive Films, founded in 2013, produced 8 feature films, 3 television series and 18 short films.

Lehane is recommended by Echo Lake Entertainment, CAA and Hansen, Jacobsen Teller.
