This next film in 2025 is the best action suite since John Wick 4 [Fantastic Fest]

The action consequences, like most of the films, tend to simply rely on rehearsal. Now that the original idea has been welcomed, it is easy to fall into the trap of doing more of the same thing, but larger and more expensive. The best suites, however, are the ones that recognize that you cannot just redo the same thing and go to extremely new directions. This is why “Mad Max: Fury Road” is widely considered not only one of the best suites ever made, but one of the best films of all time. Likewise, “John Wick: Chapter 4” is cut off from this same fabric not to try to do the same thing, but rather to take the original concept towards new peaks via significantly different tones, and is also a film which – like “Fury Road” – seems impossible to do without killing half of the stunt crew.

Now, in 2025, we have another series of action that can join these two in the way it takes a wild chance that pays a lot of time. It is an period war action film on a Finnish road Fury and a live rabbit film. This is “Sisu: Road to Revenge” by Jalmari Helander (although its Finnish title, “Si2u”, is much better stylized), the rest of the Nazi-Killing Kick-Ass film of 2022 with Jorma Tommila.

Helander would have refused to make a sequel even if Sony initially forced him to do so, until he went an idea of ​​which he was satisfied. In “Road to Revenge”, we exchange Nazis for the Soviets, while Finland enters the post-war period in the Second World War by losing a large part of its territory to the Soviet Union. The film follows Aatami Korpi (Tommila), who lost his family during the war and whose house is now part of a different country. Korpi intends to dismantle his house and win with him while he crosses the border. The problem is that the Soviets really do not like the idea that “the man who refuses to die” is right there and inspiring hope and rebellious feeling among the Finns, so they send Igor Draganov (Stephen Lang), the Red Army officer who killed Korpi’s family, to turn off the legend he helped to create.

From there, we get a brutal and exaggerated and entertaining entertaining and entertaining war film that looks very much like “Fury Road” but with much more Soviets.

“Sisu: Road to Revenge” does not waste time put on the pedal on the metal and begins to place bodies like flies. The first act of the film is essentially a major chase scene through the sorry Finnish campaign, a glorious cacophony of violence and death on the Fury road. Korpi (accompanied by his faithful dog) leads a truck filled with newspapers which once formed his family home, littering the road with the corpses of the Red Army soldiers who are trying to shoot him or to explode, with artificial means of having these soldiers. What starts with pedestrians and Molotov cocktails gives way to motorcyclists with machine guns, tanks and even planes that pull and drop bombs on Korpi and his dog.

Like “Fury Road”, it is a relentless film with a quick rate where each piece is more elaborate and impressive than the previous one. Is it absolutely ridiculous? Absolutely. At one point, Korpi drops an airplane using nothing other than a handful of pieces of wood, and this is the most incredible moment, worthy of the aerial handle of 2025 so far.

But what makes this special film really is the way it is not only happening for the “road fury” pure, but takes this concept and uses it as a launch ramp for even crazier decorations. This is because Korpi does not lead the whole film into a truck, but finally exchanges vehicles and the film spreads epic battles on tanks, and finally a train filled with soldiers armed with the Red Army.

Action in “Sisu: Road to Revenge” never feels repetitive and never feels anything less than Rad as hell. In this regard, it looks a lot like “John Wick: Chapter 4”, who used the action to tell his story visually and which offered a wide variety of pieces. As Korpi begins to kill Soviet soldiers on a train for Siberia, bloody and mutilated, but with inhuman determination, it is not only the bloody and violent culmination of history, but also a third act wrapped with a historical context for decades of Finnish / Russian conflict and personal motivation and the background of Korpi.

There is no reason why “Sisu: Road to Revenge” should work. Having a protagonist that the public knows is fundamentally immortal could easily destroy all possible issues, but the film manages to overcome all doubts to deliver the best action film of 2025 and the best action of action since “John Wick: Chapter 4.”
