December 28 NBA Picks: Three Best Bets for Sunday’s Slate

Sunday’s NBA card features six games, highlighted by the 24-7 Pistons continuing their road trip against the suddenly hot Clippers in Los Angeles. The Clips have won three straight games, while Detroit looks to bounce back from a stunning loss to Utah.

• Grizzlies (-6.5) at Wizards
• Pistons (-2.5) at Clippers

Trail Blazers (+6.5) vs. Celtics – 6:00 p.m. ET

The Celtics head west to begin a four-game road trip, all against teams with losing records. The first stop will be in Portland against a Blazers team that has lost three straight at home to the Pistons, Magic and Clippers.

In Friday’s loss to Los Angeles, Portland took a 10-point lead after one quarter, but the Clippers outscored the Blazers by 26 points in the final three quarters of a 119-103 victory. The Blazers are 4-0 ATS this season after losing their previous three games.

The Celtics are coming off two wins against the Pacers 6-26, overcoming two double-digit deficits in each victory. Boston is 14-4 in the last 18 games, but Portland should play well to avoid a fourth straight home loss.

Grizzlies (-6.5) at Wizards – 6:00 p.m. ET

Washington put together an impressive performance Friday night, outscoring Toronto 138-117 as an eight-point home underdog. The Wizards improved to 6-23, but they have yet to win back-to-back games this season.

In fact, Washington has lost by double digits every time after a win, as it hosts Memphis tonight. The Grizzlies look to avenge a 130-122 home loss to the Wizards as 12.5-point favorites on Dec. 20. Memphis led by 15 at halftime before being outscored 77-54 in the second half.

The Grizzlies have won seven of the last nine road games and did not have guard Ja Morant in the lineup for the last matchup against Washington. Morant scored 17 points in his return to the Memphis lineup in Friday’s 125-104 win over Milwaukee.

Pistons (-2.5) at Clippers – 9:00 p.m. ET

The Clippers were one of the biggest disappointments this season going 9-21. However, Los Angeles recently turned a corner with three straight wins, including beating the Lakers and Rockets at home by double digits.

Detroit has the best record in the Eastern Conference and is looking to bounce back after stubbing its toe in Friday’s 131-129 loss to Utah as an eight-point favorite. The Pistons have lost back-to-back games once this season while trying to improve to 4-10-1 ATS in the last 15 contests. Six of those non-hedges became favorites by at least eight points.

The Clippers haven’t won four straight games this season, let alone covered four straight. This is a good low buy point for the Pistons to bounce back here against the Clippers.
