Deadpool and Wolverine earned a record $1.3 billion in its theatrical release last summer. With so much talk about “superhero fatigue,” this was exactly what Marvel Studios needed at the time.
However, its success compared to this year’s efforts proves that moviegoers now need comic book movies to be an event if they want to show up in force.
During a recent interview with Kevin McCarthy (via The Playlist), filmmaker Shawn Levy was asked about a possible follow-up to the film. dead Pool threequel, and it seems that a possible fourth outing for the Merc with a Mouth was indeed on his mind.
“I’m a fan of a lot of trios in film trilogies” he explained. “I love “Back to the Future 3”. I love “The Return of the King”. Trades reported that Ryan Reynolds is mulling a new dead Pool film that would star Wade Wilson as part of the ensemble. It is expected that it will be X-Forcealthough in the post-Avengers: Secret Wars MCU (meaning Deadpool would share the screen with the next generation of mutants).
Speaking of the next Avengers films, Reynolds and his Deadpool and Wolverine his co-stars, Hugh Jackman, are expected to reprise their roles in the film this December. Avengers: Apocalypse.
Given the success they’ve had together, we’re betting Reynolds and Levy reunite for the mystery project. It’s clearly still early, but the fact that the latter is at least considering where to take Deadpool next bodes well.
