DC faces the fans’ reaction after having signed Mustafizur Rahman for the rest of the 2025

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 was anything but routine. After a week -long suspension due to climbing India-Pakistan Tensions, the tournament should resume on May 17 with a revised schedule and a wave of controversies. In the center of the last storm is the Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise, which faces a fierce reaction on social networks after their decision to sign Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman Replacing the Australian opening match Jake Fraser-McGurk. This decision triggered the #boycottdelhicapital trend, fans accusing the franchise of bad judgment and even questioning their patriotism.
Fans burst out indignation at the signature of Mustafizur Rahman at DC
The announcement of Mustafizur’s signature was intended for a strategic decision to consolidate DC’s bowling attack after losing the explosive fraser-mcgurk. However, the decision quickly turned. Many fans, already sensitive to geopolitical climate and recent cross -border hostilities, went to X (formerly Twitter) to evacuate their anger. The hashtag #boycottdelhicapital has reached the top of trend lists, users labeling the franchise as a “deshdrohi team” and demanding the ban on Bangladais players in IPL.
Certain publications on social networks have accused the franchise of having ignored the fate of the minorities in Bangladesh and of referenced greater anti-Indian feelings, further supplying indignation. The backlash was aggravated when Mustafizur himself said that he would not join DC, rather choosing to represent Bangladesh in an ODI series against United Arab Emiratesleaving the franchise in an awkward position. This sequence of events only intensified criticism, the fans questioning the moment and the wisdom of the decision.
The qualification of the DC IPL 2025 qualifying series is in balance
Despite the outdoor drama, Delhi’s capitals remain firmly in search of a place in the playoffs. With 13 points on 11 matches (6 wins, 4 defeats, 1 non-result), DC is currently in fifth place on the point table, needing at least two victories of their three remaining championship games to solidify their chances of qualifying series. The momentum at the start of the team’s season has decreased, and the loss of a key player like Fraser-McGurk-Combined with the failure of Saga-Adds to the pressure of the league.
The BCCI’s decision to authorize temporary signatures abroad for the rest of the season was intended to help franchises to face the unavailability of players due to national commitments and unique disruptions of this IPL season. However, the episode of DC-Mustafizur highlighted the complexities and sensitivities involved in such movements, especially when geopolitics and cricket collide.

The time has come for Bangladesh to be treated in the same way as Pakistan. Bangladais players should not be allowed in IPL.
Hundreds of Hindus are killed, thousands of people have become homeless – Did these players ever speak for them? In fact, most of them silently supported the massacre.

Now I want DC to not qualify for the playoffs. We all have collective abuses #Sanjivgoenka To be a bad boss but at least he did not do it by the Bangladais. As Delhi has built a lot of Bangladais fans in 10 years, @Thejswgroup And the GMR group can take advantage of it with them #Boycottdelhicaps
