David Benavidez eyes stadium fight against rising star: ‘It’s a dream of mine’

After a dominant victory over Anthony Yarde, David Benavidez is looking to expand his legacy and he has announced his intention to fight in a UK stadium against one of Britain’s rising superstars.
Benavidez made easy work of Yarde, dominating every round before the fight ended in the seventh round to mark a successful first defense of the WBC light heavyweight world title for “The Mexican Monster.”
Yet in the aftermath, Benavidez revealed his intention to move up to the cruiserweight division and face Gilberto Ramirez for the unified world titles, despite only three fights at 175 pounds since moving up from super middleweight.
However, Benavidez has since made it clear that he would be open to moving down to light heavyweight in the future and told Carl Froch that a stadium fight against Ben Whittaker could one day be on the cards.
“It’s one of my dreams to fight there [in the United Kingdom]. The crowd and the energy are incredible. Maybe me and Ben Whittaker. He needs more experience, but I hope in the future we can achieve that.
He is a green fighter and he needs more experience, but I hope in the future we can achieve that. It’s one of my dreams to fight at Wembley Stadium.
Before Benavidez collides with Ramirez in May, “Zurdo” will first face Robin Safar on Friday, January 16, as the unified WBA and WBO cruiserweight world champion looks for a more impactful 2026, after just one fight this year.
Meanwhile, Whittaker takes to the ring on Saturday night for his Matchroom debut, as he bids for a resounding victory against Germany’s Benjamin Gavazi in Birmingham.
