Dave Roberts shows convincing cases why Clayton Kershaw is Sandy Koufax Modern Dodgers

Los Angeles Dodgers launcher Clayton Kershaw made his debut of the season in 2025 on Saturday against the Los Angeles Angels. Kershaw started the season on the 60 -day injured list after undergoing surgery to solve the problems with his left knee and his big left toe.

His return comes at a crucial time because several of the best Dodgers launchers, including Blake Snell, Roki Sasaki and Tyler Glasnow, are currently sidelined on the injured list. In a recent interview with the host Colin Cowherd on Fox Sports, the Dodgers manager, Dave Roberts, spoke with the return of Kershaw.

Discussing the veteran left -hander, Roberts said (starts at 6:34):

“Clayton adds, certainly an assessment. He adds tenacity. I actually said to my wife last night, we were talking about the pitch of Clayton, and I said to myself, I can’t wait to see him enter the mound and look at this contributing, where each throw is convinced.”

“He just will not be refused. And he puts in work. And for me, and he is like a person different from the one when I got it in 16 years. He is a father now of four or five children, and he has a different perspective. He sees the finish line. Now he pursues 3000. But when he comes out, he is just an absolute beast.”

Cowherd compared Clayton Kershaw to the legendary Sandy Koufax launcher, to whom Dave Roberts replied:

“And I think he is the modern sandy koufax, where there is no self-promotion. He does not want a media. But obviously, being a big launcher, the first hall of fame, he will get it. But he just wants to be part of this team, wants to help us win.”

“He just likes to compete. So for me, we will see him on Saturday. And I can’t wait to see this kind of tenacity, this fight, which competes because it resonates with everyone. And that increases the bar for all of us.”
