Data reveals greyhound injuries and deaths at Newbridge Stadium


On April 25, a greyhound suffered a compound fracture of the right humerus and was put down by the athletics veterinarian, while another was euthanized following a fractured hock on August 29.

At least six greyhounds were injured at Newbridge Greyhound Stadium in the first eight months of 2025, and three of those dogs were euthanised, according to new figures from the Department of Agriculture.

The data, covering the period from January 1 to August 31, 2025, shows injuries at the Kildare venue included serious limb fractures and fractures, some occurring during official races and others during private trials.

Additional injuries were recorded in February, March, April and May, two of which also led to euthanasia by the owners’ veterinarians.

The incidents in Kildare are part of a wider national trend.

At Greyhound Racing Ireland (GRI) licensed tracks, 242 greyhounds were injured and 138 were killed – either dying on the track or euthanized after races.
