Danny Rohl’s six-word warning to Rangers players ahead of Kilmarnock

Danny Rohl has warned his players they “gave me a lot of information” after Rangers’ damaging 3-0 Europa League defeat to Brann in the Europa League on Thursday.

The 36-year-old head coach was appointed to succeed Russell Martin on Monday, but there was no dream debut in Norway. Emil Kornvig opened the scoring five minutes before the break, Jacob Sorensen added a second after 55 minutes and Noah Holm scored a third after 79 minutes for a comfortable victory for the home side.

Rangers writer and podcaster David Edgar called for two sackings immediately after the game as pressure continues to mount on general manager Patrick Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell.

Rangers are bottom of the 36-team table as they turn their attention to visiting Kilmarnock in the William Hill Premiership on Sunday.

Rohl warns players after loss to Brann

Rohl appeared to issue a warning to the players who took part in Thursday’s humiliation, telling Rangers TV that they “gave me a lot of information” and were not up to the task.

“We have high standards at Rangers and we weren’t at the top there. You see exactly where we are at the moment.

“I think this game gave me a lot of information, my job now is to find solutions as quickly as possible.”

The new boss, however, took responsibility for what was to come, more than two months before he had the opportunity to change teams during the January transfer window: “I have to develop and improve the players. I have to develop and improve the group. That’s what I have to do. That’s my job.

“We played against an organized, aggressive team that knew the basics well, and we didn’t do it.

“But my job is to pick them up, give them solutions and be ready on Sunday.”

Ally McCoist has told talkSPORT he struggles to commentate on matches involving his former team.

Ally McCoist as an expert for TNT Sports.

“All three teams Rangers have played (in the Europa League) are average,” the Ibrox legend said on Friday morning.

“I’ll be extremely honest, last night I was as depressed as I have been throughout this whole debacle. I actually sympathize with the manager. I don’t know what he’s going to do. He could improve them in terms of a little bit of organisation.

“But I don’t think there’s a level of improvement in this team that would be necessary to move them up the league domestically. They’re just miles away.”

Gers will be looking to secure just their second league win this season when they host Kilmarnock on Sunday afternoon. They could be 16 points behind at the start of the game if Hearts beat Celtic in the previous kick-off.
