Danny DeVito raves about grandpa duties – and how he’s turning his grandkids into ‘real Italians’

Danny DeVito can’t get enough of his grandchildren.
“I’m a doting grandfather,” he recently told Page Six exclusively. “Like I have to stop myself from jumping in the car and going over it, you know what I mean?
The “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star, 80, has two grandchildren who live nearby.
“[My daughter] Gracie is the mother of Sinclair, she is two and a half years old, and Lucy is the mother of Carmine, who is 15 months old,” he shared.
“It’s just a wonderful thing that I’m 15 minutes from their house,” he continued. “I need a solution, I get in the car, I call them and I say, ‘What’s going on tonight? Can Pop Pop come over and eat a plate of pasta?'”
DeVito bragged about making his grandchildren “real Italians.”
“They’ll say, ‘Do you want a cup of coffee?’ » It will be all that! he joked.
The “Matilda” star shares his children – Lucy, 42, Gracie, 40, and Jake, 38 – with ex-wife Rhea Perlman.
The couple separated in 2017 but never divorced and remain good friends.
During an appearance on “WWHL” in 2019, the “Cheers” alum, 77, explained his decision not to legalize their separation.
“Danny and I have always loved each other and we have three amazing children together and we really agree on almost everything that’s important and so, you know, we’ve been together for 40 years,” she explained.
Meanwhile, DeVito will represent his home state next week.
The proud New Jersey native will once again host the 17th annual New Jersey Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Nov. 21, when he helps celebrate Jon Bon Jovi’s wife Dorothea Bongiovi, educator Drury Thorp and physicist Shirley Ann Jackson.
DeVito, a Neptune native, praised Garden State residents for their “spirit.”
“We have hope, we have love, we are truly part of the human race,” he said.
The “Taxi” alum added that New Jerseyans always keep things real, noting that his favorite Jersey expression is, “You got a problem with that?”
“The people of Jersey inform you,” he explained. “They’ll tell you if they like it or not.”
