Dallas Cowboys @ Carolina Panthers: Preview, Predictions & Odds

Dallas Cowboys @ Carolina Panthers Preview

The Dallas Cowboys travel to Charlotte to take on the Carolina Panthers amid a warning from one of their former teammates following his stellar Week 5 performance.

Dallas improved to 2-2-1 with a rout of the New York Jets last week and is a road favorite against Carolina.

But they face a Panthers team that is coming off a comeback victory against the Miami Dolphins, with Carolina recovering from a 17-0 deficit to record their second victory of the campaign.

Carolina’s effort was highlighted by a career day for former Cowboys running back Rico Dowdle.

Dowdle gashed the Dolphins for 206 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries, averaging nine yards per carry.

And he had a message for his ex-teammates before the Cowboys visit.

Dowdle could play a more complementary role Sunday, with running back Chuba Hubbard expected to return from a calf injury.

But he said of his former team, ranked 32nd in the NFL in defense: “They need to buckle up.

“It just meant it was going to be a very physical match. I’m proud of that. Buckle your chinstraps. I’ll come.”

When asked about Dowdle’s comments, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said, “I know we’re going to have to buckle up.

“We’ll bring our seat belts, Rico. We’ll buckle them. I can’t wait to see it though.”

Seat belts could be considered a wise accompaniment for Cowboys games in what has been a roller coaster campaign.

Although they have been porous on defense, the Cowboys have scored at least 37 points in three of their last four games, with quarterback Dak Prescott and the passing game operating at an extremely high level.

Carolina’s defense appears to offer more resistance than the Jets’, however, with just five sacks to their name and the lowest pressure rate in the league, it’s unlikely the Panthers will give Prescott the kind of problems with their pass rush that will cause him to lose rhythm.

As such, it seems likely that this one will turn into a shootout and, for all the merits of Carolina’s running game, the clear advantage in a quarterback duel between Bryce Young and Prescott goes to the Cowboys star.

Prediction for Dallas Cowboys @ Carolina Panthers

Expect this one to be a very entertaining game that ends with the Cowboys celebrating a victory that will solidify their position as a playoff threat in the NFC.

Prediction: Dallas Cowboys 34 – 28 Carolina Panthers
