While it’s not quite the same Cinderella story as some other games, Cyberpunk 2077 is widely considered to be a game-changer since its disastrous version 1.0 launch. It’s been quite a comeback, and given the number of sales and distributions he’s been involved with (in addition to side projects), he’s pretty ubiquitous.
The fact is that millions of people can now experience it for free. If you didn’t know, now is the time to dive into it.
It’s an easy win for PS Plus
On PlayStation Plus Extra you can play Cyberpunk 2077 now for free. It is part of the PlayStation Plus game catalog, similar to Xbox Game Pass. If you haven’t started PlayStation Plus in a while, note that Essential is the lowest tier, which essentially gives you a few extra downloadable bonuses per month, as well as the ability to play online and take advantage of cloud saves.
“Extra” is a higher level and includes all around 400 titles in the game catalog. Then there is Premium, which also allows streaming of PS3 games and the retro game catalog (PS1, PS2, PSP), in addition to game trials.

It changed things
If you only followed the problematic launch of Cyberpunk 2077now might be a good time to dive in and see what Night City has to offer. Not only has CD Projekt Red been working on fixing and updating the game for months, but at this point there’s a lot more content to play with, as well as countless quality of life improvements that make the base game even better.
Then there is the Phantom Freedom DLC, which is more like a classic full expansion from CD Projekt Red. It features new scenarios that expand on the original game’s narrative and receives almost universally positive reception. That doesn’t include the copious amounts of mods that added extra flare to the PC edition of the game.
It makes perfect sense that CD Projekt Red would continue to develop more games in this franchise. People love the idea of taking on mega-corporations and living in a seedy underbelly reminiscent of classic science fiction Blade Runner.
Cyberpunk is a beloved series, and so this world feels lived-in. If there was a franchise worth buying, it’s this one, especially given its pedigree. For those of you who own PlayStation Plus Extra and want to see what it’s all about, you can check it out for free.
