Chicago – The Chicago Cubs have accepted a minor league contract with Kenta Maeda, giving right -handers in difficulty another chance to regain its form.
Cubs manager Craig Counsell confirmed the agreement before the WHITE SOX victory before Friday 13-3.
Maeda, aged 37, had an MPM of 7.88 in seven appearances in terms of success for Detroit before being appointed for assignment on May 1. He went 3-7 with an MPM of 6.09 in 17 departures and 12 appearances in succession during his first year with the Tigers after accepting a contract of $ 24 million of two years in November 2023.
“I think he is a player with whom you have to have a constant conversation and see where we can make adjustments and see where he is,” said Counsell.
Maeda made her major league debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2016, in 16-11 with an MPM of 3.48 in 32 departures. He went 6-1 with an MPM of 2.70 in 11 departures for Minnesota during the 2020 season at the Pandemic Bilan, finishing the second in the vote at the price of the Al Cy Young.
Maeda, who missed the 2022 season due to Tommy John surgery, is 68-56 with an MPM of 4.20 in 226 major league games, including 172 departures.
NL central head cubs have three key starters on the injured list. Shota Imanaga has a slight strain of left hamstrings, and Javier Assad has an oblique problem. Justin Steele is absent for the rest of the season with an elbow injury.
Imanaga was injured in a 4-0 defeat in Milwaukee on May 4. Counsell said the team wanted to spend this weekend before setting up a plan for the return of Imanaga.
“For the moment, we are continuing to launch,” said Counsell. “It has a kind of high day, an average day, a low launching day, but continues to throw this type of rotation cycle every day.”
Cubs also play without the left -hand player Ian Happ, who is on the 10 -day IL with a left oblique tension. The triple winner of Gold Glove was injured in a swing last week.
“I think that tomorrow is a kind of bigger day to see where we are with Ian, because we must obviously progress towards the strike if we are talking about [activating him on] Tuesday, “said Counsell.
