Crystal Palace aim for move for Brennan Johnson

Crystal Palace are exploring an ambitious January move for Tottenham Hotspur winger Brennan Johnson, according to The Telegraph.

Manager Oliver Glasner is eager to strengthen his attacking options as the Eagles look to secure European qualification in the second half of the season.

Palace have identified Johnson as one of several potential attacking targets, with the Wales international seen as an ideal fit for Glasner’s fast-paced system.

The 24-year-old has been admired at the club for some time and his ability to play across the forward line makes him a versatile option.

Crystal Palace wants to add more attacking depth

Glasner’s team has shown flashes of brilliance this campaign but has struggled with depth in attack.

Ismaila Sarr’s ankle ligament injury, coupled with his likely appearance in the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal, has left Palace short of options in many areas.

The Austrian coach is determined to bring in reinforcements to ease the pressure on his current attackers.

Since his £47.5 million move from Nottingham Forest in 2023, Johnson has enjoyed mixed fortunes at Spurs.

He wrote his name into club folklore with his winning goal in the Europa League final, but under new manager Thomas Frank, the winger has struggled to maintain regular minutes this season.

Reports suggest Spurs’ position will determine whether a move comes to fruition. Tottenham are not actively looking to sell Johnson but could be open to loan offers if they secure their own attacking reinforcement in January.

Frank apparently remains an admirer of the player’s energy and work rate, but with fierce competition for places his future in north London is not entirely assured.

Palace’s interest in the Spurs winger underlines their ambition under Glasner, who has been backed by chairman Steve Parish and sporting director Matt Hobbs to add quality in January.

As Tottenham juggle domestic and European commitments, their willingness to allow his departure, even temporarily, remains uncertain.
