County Collin warns against exposure to measles in 4 public sites in McKinney
In the middle of an epidemic of measles cases in Texas, County County officials warned the public on Tuesday of exhibitions in four different places in McKinney last week.
In a press release, Collin County Health Care Services said that there had been an exposure to measles between May 19 and 22 at the following locations:
- 24 hours of shape, 1601 N. Hardin Blvd.
- Moviehouse & Eatery, 8450 State Highway 121
- Cubana Grille, 4051 S. Custer Road, Ste. 1160
- Market Street, 6100 Eldorado Parkway
They said that the time of exhibitions varies, ranging from 3.30 p.m. and 11 p.m.
Anyone who was in these four places at that time should monitor the symptoms until June 12, officials said in the press release. Symptoms of measles include fever, dry cough, flowing nose, sore throat, rash and small white spots with blue white centers inside the mouth.
Officials have also informed that those who are immunocompromised, pregnant or not vaccinated should immediately contact their healthcare professional if they believe they were exposed to measles.
Measles is a very contagious airborne virus that causes an infection that could cause serious complications or death. County officials of Collin said that the virus can stay in the air for two hours after a infected person left the area.
The virus, however, is mainly spread among people who are not vaccinated against it. According to the centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
On Friday, the Texas Department of State Health Services announced that 728 cases of measles have been confirmed in the state since the start of the epidemic in January.
