Supergirl Movie Star Reveals DCU Movie Will Address Controversial Superman Return

THE Supergirl The film will be the next film in James Gunn’s DC universe, following the debut of Milly Alcock in David Corenswet’s 2025 installment. DCU Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” wastes no time setting up its Kryptonian icons, since Kara Zor-El will be in the spotlight next year.

In an interview with @Nerdtropolis, David Krumholtz, who plays Kara’s father Zor-El in Supergirl, explained how the 2026 entry would honor the Woman of tomorrow book on which the film is based. He began by stating: “It’s very faithful to the graphic novel that it’s based on, Woman of Tomorrow, very true to life, which is great. Plus Lobo, what I can say, everyone knows Jason Momoa plays Lobo in it. So it’s that comic plus Lobo.”

Although he couldn’t say much, Krumholtz added: “I’ll just say that I’m excited to be the next thing to tell the story of Krypton and further clarify what House El is.” Another Kryptonian who will feature in the film is Emily Beecham, who has been cast as Kara’s mother, Alura In-Ze.

In the Superman film, it was revealed through a big twist with Jor-El and Lara that they had sent Kal-El to Earth in order to rule and make the planet the next Krypton, following Lex Luthor’s revelation of their message to the world. Zor-El being the brother of Jor-El, Supergirl could use him, Alura, and Kara to further establish the history of the DCU’s House of El.

Craig Gillespie directed the superhero film based on a screenplay by Ana Nogueira, who adapted Supergirl: the woman of tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, which became one of DC Comics’ most well-received miniseries. This will be the heroine’s first solo film since 1984, when Helen Slater brought her to the big screen.

THE Supergirl The film’s cast will also feature key players from the original comic, with Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem des Collines Jaunes and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll. Alcock’s DCU episode won’t be DC Studios’ only release in 2026, as clay face will be released on September 11.

Supergirl will arrive in theaters on June 26, 2026.
