Last weekend, the representative of the state of Minnesota, Melissa Hortman, Democrat, and her husband, Mark, were killed by their homes by a man who usurped a police officer.
The attack comes in the midst of an increase in political violence. Last year, Capitol police investigated more than 9,000 threats to members of the US Congress.
Former American deputy Gabby Giffords knows the horrors of armed violence too well. The Arizona Democrat was killed during a constituent event in Tucson in 2011.
Now defender of firearms security, Giffords speaks with host Mary Louise Kelly in the way she manages this moment and her reflections on the resolution of the problem of armed violence.
