Connections 103: Communicate with patients

Over the past two years, I have approached approaches and tactics to use to share bad news with patients. Because it is such a sensitive subject, I am always looking for means of new more effective ways to communicate to patients.

I came across an article by Dr. Michael Kirsch who regularly contributes to Kevinmd.com of MedpageTODAY: “How should doctors give bad news to patients?”

The most important point that I think that Dr. Kirsch is getting closer to the end of his article: “Providing bad news is a very difficult and inevitable responsibility of a doctor. Do I do it well? I think yes, but I’m not really sure. I gave the news to my patient and his wife After I had made arrangements to see the necessary consultants in the coming days.

I think that patient stress in these situations is attenuated when there is a plan that we doctors, put in place. “I have in fat” after “because I fully agree to set up a plan so that our patients take care of their future care and reduce their stress.

So what do you think of how you provide bad news? And when you receive it? Special advice or advice that you can offer to the community? Let us know in the comments below.
