Nico Williams wishing to “make history” after having rejected Barcelona for the contract of the new sports club

Nico Williams doubled his commitment to the sports club, refusing Barcelona’s interest in pursuing his career in Bilbao.
The Spanish international, who played a key role in the Euro 2024 triumph of La Roja, attracted this summer of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Chelsea this summer this summer.
Barcelona, in particular, would have been prepared to trigger his release clause of 58 million euros in order to bring the winger to Camp Nou, a year after the recording of their interest for the first time.
However, Williams recently signed a contract extension with Athletic Club until June 2035, and he clearly indicated that his heart remains in the Basque country.
“We have a long season in front of us and a few ambitious goals, like playing in the Champions League – something that each player dreams,” said Nico.
“What could be better than doing it with the club of my life? I want to continue to make the story here in San Mamés, with fans, with my family and full of enthusiasm.”

The director of football of the athletics club, Mikel Gonzalez, praised the major victory decision for the club.
“He is a unique and exceptional player, and keeping this talent at Athletic is a fantastic news,” said Gonzalez.
Williams’ loyalty is particularly significant given its long -standing link with the club. He joined Athletic’s Youth Academy at just 11 years old, and now, at 22, is one of the most exciting young wingers in European football.
Williams will continue to share the field with his older brother, Inaki Williams, who was appointed first team captain for the coming season.
“We both always dreamed of this moment,” said Nico.
“My brother is a model for everyone, especially for me. I think he is the best person to be a captain, and I can’t wait to see him carry the armband for a long time. ”
