Comment on us, do we need “thanaticians” for terminal patients? (Part 1) by Carolyn Oleson

The idea of creating thanaticians to deal with end -of -life problems is an interesting concept to think. My hope is that, instead of inventing a new avenue so that health professionals to solve the problem, that we rather come back to the goal of life. Our life here is an opportunity to get closer to eternal life. We can do this by offering our suffering. It’s really sad to suffer in vain. But those who suffer from the goal do not waste time here on earth. What may seem to prolong the dying process for some could be precious moments of grace that make a difference for the soul. It is only necessary to pass from earthly life when they are called by God.

Once we have passed, we no longer have the opportunity to work on our salvation, whether through good works, prayers, sacrifices or to offer our suffering. We do not all suffer as well as the saints in terms of counting for our eternal life. But the fact is that, even if we are alive on earth, we have this opportunity. Who are we to thwart the most important reason to be alive? This is why we must live every day with thanks because we have this opportunity. Our time here on Earth is really a gift.

This very “controversial” problem sometimes looks more like the suffering than us, as health professionals, looking at difficult end -of -life experiences. Perhaps we should also offer emotional disorders that we feel inherent in this important work. The real blessings can help us see the light and the direction in which to guide. Leaving the will of God for our patients presiding over our confessional mission of respect for life. October is a wonderful month to think about this because it is the month of “life of respect”.
