Not everyone sees an eye on a new aesthetic trend.
A procedure known as keratopigmentation – where color pigments are injected into the cornea to cover the natural iris, according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology – has gained popularity on social networks with its promise to definitively change the color of the patients of patients in a few minutes.
Doctor Brian Boxer WachlerAn ophthalmologist with more than 3.4 million followers from Tiktok, has accumulated tens of millions of video views on the platform with clips of transformations before and after her patients, one where a woman was overwhelmed by emotion after having succeeded in undergoing the operation to change the color of the olive green.
“I love it. The color is very natural,” she said in the video, adding that she had no pain after surgery. “It’s incredible.”
The video ended with an opinion that the procedure – also known as eye tattooing – could cause “sensitivity to light and strangulation”, but some experts say that the risks can be much more extensive.
