Colbert and Kimmel credit Trump for ceasefire deal on air

Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel both presented flowers to Donald Trump for the role he played in the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and the release of the hostages.
The late-night hosts addressed the big news moment during their respective monologues on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” On Monday night, he gave the president “credit” for his work in the Middle East – before throwing a few jabs at him.
Specifically, Colbert, who was on leave last week, said he missed a “doozy” week, mentioning everything from Taylor Swift’s “The Life of a Showgirl” album to “mixed reviews” to the government shutdown.
“It’s less, we didn’t start the fire and what’s more, everything is on fire,” noted Colbert before recapitulating the events of last week. “There is good news because today, thanks to the ceasefire recently negotiated by Trump in Gaza, all living Israeli hostages and almost 2,000 Palestinian prisoners have been released. This is important. We must recognize that Donald Trump has done something good.”
At this point, Colbert jokingly asked his producers backstage, “Are we still canceled? Are you sure? I tried.”
In August, Colbert announced that his show would end in May. At the time, CBS emphasized that the decision was financial — even though it followed Colbert’s criticism of CBS parent Paramount for its $16 million settlement with Trump.
Kimmel expressed a similar sentiment during his own monologue: “What a day for Donald Trump. You know what? He finally did something positive today and I want to give him credit for it, because I know he’s not the type to take credit for it.”
“While we are only in the first phase of what will undoubtedly be a long and delicate process, the fact is that the bombing has stopped. The hostages have been released,” Kimmel added. “And Trump deserves some credit for that. So, I know that sounds crazy to say, but good job on that one, President Trump. Now, maybe you can’t invade Portland. Just an idea.”
