Argentina will face Colombia in the FIFA U-20 World Cup semi-finals on Wednesday afternoon at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Santiago, Chile. Argentina exited the World Cup group stage with an undefeated 3-0 record. Italy, Australia and Cuba were all victims of Argentina’s defeats in Group D. Argentina opened the knockout stage with a match against Nigeria. The match didn’t last very long as Argentina took a 1-0 lead in the second minute thanks to a goal from Alejo Sarco, followed by a goal from Maher Carrizo in the 23rd minute to lead 2-0 at halftime.

Coming out of the break, Carrizo scored again in the 53rd minute, followed by an unanswered fourth goal from Mateo Silvetti. By advancing to the quarterfinals, Argentina once again blanked their opponent by beating Mexico by a score of 2-0. Colombia will look to break through tonight and become the first team to score a goal against Argentina in the round of 16. The nation advanced to the semifinals first by winning Group F, despite going 1-2-0 in the team’s three group matches. Colombia opened the elimination round against South Africa, winning 3-1. Joel Canchimbo put the team 1-0 ahead in the 7th minute, before RSA equalized in the 49th minute with a converted penalty.
Neyser Villareal broke the tie with a goal in the 63rd minute and was also responsible for the insurance goal in 90 minutes of injury time. As the team advanced to the quarterfinals, they faced Spain, winning 3–2. Villareal scored the first goal to go 1-0 up before Spain scored twice just after the break to regain the lead. Villareal played the role of hero, scoring the equalizer in the 64th minute and the winner in the 89th minute.
