Liverpool could try to do business in January, although he has already spent more than 400 million pounds sterling in the summer. A new central defender is likely to be on the agenda after the LCA injury by Geovanni Leoni, but he was also discussed on another departure.

In summer, Joe Gomez was about to leave Liverpool, but after the end of Marc Guehi, he stayed in Anfield. However, he could still be in motion in mid-season, in particular with AC Milan very interested in its services.

Despite this, Pete O’Rourke (via football insider) said that Liverpool is unlikely to allow Gomez to leave in January, given the lack of depth of Arne Slot in central defense.

“It would be very unlikely that Liverpool plans to let Joe Gomez leave, in particular with their current central defense problems. After failing to bring Guehi, Leoni’s injury was also a hard blow, so Gomez is the only other upper central defense option available for slave.

“The thing about Gomez is that he is so versatile, he can play on the right back, on the left back, even in the defensive midfielder he made under Jurgen Klopp. There was obviously the interest of AC Milan in the summer window. I’m sure there is always the interest of certain foreign clubs in Gomez too, but the current Liverpool struggle even means that they cannot even consider Gomez.

“They probably seek to bring another central defender and do not lose a central defender in January. So I think it will be the current situation. ”

It is logical that Gomez remains in Liverpool up to at least the end of the season, given his obvious problems on the central back. Next summer would be the right time for him to leave, since his contract expired in 2027.
