Clippers’ Bradley Beal needs season-ending hip surgery, agent says

LOS ANGELES — LA Clippers guard Bradley Beal suffers a broken left hip and will undergo season-ending surgery.
Beal’s agent, Mark Bartelstein of PrioritySports, told ESPN’s Shams Charania that the three-time All-Star will make a “full and complete recovery” following surgery.
“We have met with numerous doctors and specialists across the country, in conjunction with the entire Clippers medical staff, over the past few days, and have come to the unanimous decision that the surgery will allow Brad to make a full and complete recovery,” Bartelstein told Charania on Wednesday.
Beal left Saturday’s game against the Phoenix Suns in the first half because of hip soreness. Lawrence Frank, president of basketball operations for the Clippers, described the unusual nature of his injury.
“It’s a very, very random injury,” Frank said before the Clippers played the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday. “The surgeon said it was almost the equivalent of a car accident. This is an atypical basketball injury. It’s more of an acute trauma type injury.”
Frank confirmed that Beal is expected to make a full recovery.
“I feel horrible for him dealing with this broken hip,” Frank said. “In speaking with several surgeons, they are extremely optimistic that he will make a full recovery. He will be back next year. The positive side is that we are trying to manage the inflammation in his body. [right] knee, we will have more time to take care of it. I feel horrible for Brad.”
Beal, 32, underwent knee surgery after last season and was dealing with knee pain early this season. Frank said the inflammation in his knee has gone down. Beal had a career-low 8.2 points and 1.7 assists in six games this season, his first in Los Angeles. In 14 NBA seasons, he averaged 21.4 points with 4.3 assists in 807 games (758 starts) for the Washington Wizards (2012-23), the Suns (2023-25) and the Clippers.
The Clippers signed Beal to a two-year, $11 million contract with a player option for 2026-27. The Clippers were thrilled that Beal chose to sign with them.
Frank said the Clippers are eager to get Beal back healthy.
“We are extremely encouraged by the outcome [for his hip] and I look forward to having him here next year healthy,” Frank said.
