Cillian Murphy will appear in 28 years later the 2nd Trilogy film

Cillian Murphy will return to the new trilogy “28 weeks later”, but fans have to wait a bit.
While chatting with IGN, director Danny Boyle revealed that Murphy – who played Jim in “28 days later” in 2002 – would be at the end of “28 days later: the Bone Temple” which will be released at the beginning of 2026 rather than in the first film in the trilogy in June.
“He’s in the second,” said Boyle. “I shouldn’t give too much. I’m going to be killed. “
Boyle – which also made Murphy in “28 days later” – worked with the writer Alex Garland on a restart of the planned trilogy of the Zombie franchise. The first two films of the trilogy were shot consecutive with the “28 years later” of Boyle in June and the follow -up “28 years later: The Bone Temple” directed by Nia Dacosta arriving in 2026. The final film of the trilogy has not yet been funded, but Boyle Hopes Murphy’s inclusion’s – in the awakening of his “Oppenhemer”.
“All I can say is that you have to wait for Cillian, but I hope he will help us finance the third film,” he told Business Insider.
The director added more context to IGN: “It is the epilogue or a final theme at the end of the first film which gives you a transfer to the second film. Although each story ends, there is also a transfer section to the next film. That really.
Fans of the original film of 2002 were convinced that Murphy was already seen in the trailer of “28 years later” which dropped in December. A quick blow of a zombie walking in a field seemed so similar to the character of Murphy Jim that he had very speculating that it was the survivor a long time ago. Fortunately, the zombie was not Jim and it will be just a little longer to wait until he was back on the screen to fight for his life.
“28 years later” features Aaron Taylor Johnson, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell and Alfie Williams. He landed in theaters on June 20, 2025.
