Do you ever feel like everything is completely fucked up in America? Well, of course! This is Mark Hunter’s mindset in the 1990s. Turn up the volumetaking on the FCC (i.e. The Man) from a pirate radio station in his parents’ basement. And it is this character and this film that Christian Slater chooses as his all-time favorite.
During an article in Interview Magazine, Rami Malek asked Christian Slater which of his films he liked the most. “I think it’s always been Turn up the volume. Again, I love everyone involved, and I still love them all today. I feel like we did something very special together and I remember being very happy on set.
Fittingly, Slater also cited his Turn up the volume character like the one he would choose to be stuck with on a desert island. “It would probably be Mark Hunter, from Turn up the volume. I loved it, and I loved this movie, and I loved everyone involved in this project. I was just very happy when I was making that movie… It was the next movie I made after Heathersand there was a depth to it that I really appreciated…I loved his vulnerability. Where in HeathersI was just a real crazy person – sort of a psychopathic killer – and it was good to play a young man dealing with the FCC and issues of that nature, and trying to speak out against injustice.
Christian Slater has a large filmography, so there’s plenty to choose from here. For what it’s worth, I should put True novelIt’s Clarence at the top, although he ultimately managed to Turn up the volume Last summer, Mark Hunter was certainly in the top three. But his work in television is certainly part of the conversation, as Slater received the biggest acclaim of his career – including a Golden Globe – for Mister Robot.
