The Chinese semiconductor company Cambcon has published a record profit in the first seme Nvidia gain ground while Beijing seeks to stimulate its national industry.

Cambcony is among a plethora of companies in China who compete for an alternative to the American giant Nvidia when it comes to providing the chips necessary to train and manage artificial intelligence applications and models.

In the first half of the half, Cambricon said that revenues had increased by more than 4,000% in annual shift to 2.88 billion Chinese yuan (402.7 million dollars) and that net profit reached a record of 1.04 billion yuan. The figures remain low compared to Nvidia which declared $ 44 billion in revenues during its quarter from February to April. The technology giant is expected to publish its tax revenues in the second quarter later during the day.

However, the overvoltage of Cambconies’s income highlights how technological companies in China are looking for potential alternatives to Nvidia, given the continuous threat that they could be cut off from American technology.

Nvidia was blocked earlier this year by selling her h20 chip at the back in China. He has since been authorized to resume exports to China, but must share 15% of his sales income in the country with the United States government.

Meanwhile, China would have discouraged local businesses to buy H20 fleas from Nvidia.

The Chinese technology giants used local fleas as well as the Nvidia equipment on which they were able to get their hands, which helps businesses like Cambricon.

Cambricon’s shares have more than doubled this year and it added to north of $ 40 billion to its market capitalization, according to S&P Capital IQ. The total value of the company is around $ 80 billion.

Nvidia’s strength has not only been in its hardware but also in its software that developers have used to use. Cambricon said on Wednesday that it also improved its software offer and is working on new generation hardware.

Nevertheless, the Chinese rivals of Nvidia are faced with many obstacles when it comes to beat the competition. Their technology remains far behind that of Nvidia, while longer -term perspectives seem even more difficult due to export controls reducing China of the most advanced Tamias manufacturing techniques, blocking the progress of national efforts from Chinese IA fleas.
