Chicago Weather: First snowflakes of the season expected this weekend

An incoming storm system will bring rain to the area late this evening into early Friday morning.

Most areas can expect about a quarter inch or less of rain before drying out around dawn tomorrow.

Full forecast:

Most of Friday looks good with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies and highs in the lower 60s.

Winds will pick up during the day and gust to around 30 mph from the west. Soak up the warmth while it’s here! Temperatures will drop significantly this weekend.

Temperatures Saturday will reach the upper 40s to near 50 degrees with rain arriving late morning or midday. Rain showers are expected throughout the afternoon and evening, and as temperatures drop in the evening, this rain could change to snow.

Accumulations will be low to none, but grassy and elevated areas may have light accumulations of slush.

Temperatures become significantly colder Sunday and Monday, with highs only in the 30s. Lake-effect snow showers are possible both days, although the location and timing of these snow bands is still uncertain. For now, it looks like most of the activity will be in Northwest Indiana, but we could see some rain/snow in Northeast Illinois if the winds can shift a bit to the Northeast.

Warmer air will begin to accumulate in the region Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Veterans Day is expected to be mostly cloudy with highs in the mid 40s, then we warm up to the mid 50s on Wednesday with partly cloudy skies.
