Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger was linked to a return to Chelsea at the end of the season.

The German international could leave the Spanish club in summer, and a return to Stamford Bridge was mentioned. However, the former Premier League scout Mick Brown thinks that it does not correspond to the type of player inzo Maresca wishes on the side, and it is unlikely to return to the London Club.

In addition to that, Chelsea seeks to call on younger players and, therefore, they are not likely to invest in the German international of 79 CAP.

Chelsea not Ken on Antonio Rudiger

“Rudiger’s days in Chelsea are over,” he told Football Insider.

“I heard whispers that he could leave Real Madrid when Ancelotti leaves.

“He is still ready to fight, he could cause a row in a telephone booth, and Chelsea needs a little.

“But it is good in their thirties now, this is not the type of player they watch.

“They want to bring younger players who can develop to the club, whether it is the right thing to do or not because the experience can be precious.

“Rudiger has this experience, but it does not correspond to the age or type of player that Maresca wants for his part, so as I say, it’s unlikely.”

Chelsea needs a quality defender

It will be interesting to see if Chelsea decides to invest in a quality defender this summer. They seem vulnerable on the back, and they must bring an upgrade to players like Benoit Badiashiles. Wesley Fofana has also fought against persistent injuries.

The signing of a quality central defender should be one of their priorities. Chelsea must improve defensively if they want to fight for the trophies next year.

As for Rudiger, he has proven himself in the Premier League and La Liga. It is unlikely to have a shortage of clubs that seek to sign it.
