Chelsea have decided to offer a new contract to Malo Gusto

Chelsea are reportedly in advanced talks with right-back Malo Gusto over a new long-term contract that would extend his stay at Stamford Bridge beyond 2030.

According to RMC Sport, the west London club are preparing to reward the French defender with improved conditions following his growing influence within Enzo Maresca’s team.

Despite a mixed reception from parts of the fanbase since his arrival from Lyon in 2023, Chelsea view Gusto as a key part of their long-term defensive plan and are eager to secure his future as part of the team’s continued development and contract renewals.

Gusto was recently linked with a move to Juventus and it was reported that even the Blues were willing to allow him to leave the club.

Since arriving in London, the 22-year-old has had a turbulent start to life in the Premier League.

Nonetheless, within Chelsea’s management structure there is strong confidence in Gusto’s long-term potential and his suitability for the club’s style of play.

The Frenchman’s adaptation off the field has also gone smoothly, thanks to the club’s growing French-speaking contingent.

Teammates such as Benoît Badiashile and Wesley Fofana helped him settle into London life, creating a strong sense of community and familiarity.

The Blues are now set to extend the deal for another year or two, while also offering a significant pay rise. This approach reflects recent moves by Chelsea to reward players such as Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson, who both received improved terms in 2024 despite still having long contracts.

Likewise, Moises Caicedo would be next in line for a pay rise as part of Chelsea’s efforts to maintain a core of motivated and committed young talent.

The decision to extend Gusto’s contract also demonstrates Chelsea’s confidence in his development and his ability to challenge long-term first-choice right-back Reece James, whose recurring injury problems have limited his availability.
