Chelsea and Bayern Munich both appear to be involved in the race to sign Nottingham Forest centre-back Murillo, according to Christian Falk.

In the latest edition of his exclusive CF Bayern Insider column, Falk discussed Murillo’s situation and the asking price following his superb form at Forest.

The talented Brazilian will surely get the chance to join a bigger club at some point, and this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Chelsea linked with him.

Murillo has been touted as a Chelsea target for some time now, including by outlets such as Football Insider, and the 23-year-old would certainly fit the Blues’ strategy of signing the best young players in the world.

What’s next for Murillo as Chelsea and Bayern Munich transfer linked?

Discussing Murillo as an option for Bayern, Falk said the impressive young defender would likely cost around €50 million and would also be a target for Chelsea if he moved in the near future.

“It’s TRUE: Bayern Munich added Murillo to their shortlist. It’s because they don’t know what will happen to their own defensive talents in the near future,” Falk said.

“Murillo is on that list. He’s doing very, very well in the Premier League. Forest, of course, gave him a new contract in January, partly because Real Madrid were looking at him.

“Bayern can imagine integrating the 23-year-old central defender into the team.

“However, his transfer amount will not be easy for FC Bayern. We believe it will exceed 50 million euros. [£43.5m] that they would have to pay, but one of the advantages is that he doesn’t have a particularly high salary at the moment, so he would fit in well in the Bayern team.

“Bayern, however, are not alone; I heard that Chelsea are also interested. Nevertheless, he could be a good option for Bayern Munich.”

Murillo looks to be a necessary signing for Chelsea

Chelsea surely need to make sure they are at the front of the queue for Murillo’s signing as they need some new additions in defence.

The west London giants have slightly neglected this area of their squad this summer, instead focusing on bringing in a host of new attacking signings such as Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens, Alejandro Garnacho, Estevao Willian and Facundo Buonanotte.

Meanwhile, Enzo Maresca is yet to line up with Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo, so CFC would do well to make an upgrade.

Murillo seems like the ideal fit, so Chelsea would do well to ensure he can beat out the competition for his signature.
