The filmmakers for the first time Mac Eldridge and Tom Dean, who made their debut as director at Tiff with the romantic non -linear film “Charlie Harper”, bet that the public is ready for a nostalgic return to the optimism of 2008.
“Charlie Harper” is centered on the complicated relationship between Charlie (Nick Robinson) and Harper (Emilia Jones) and takes place in a non -linear manner, illustrating the changes in the way they relate to each other over time. The romantic drama, which extends over 15 years, takes place during the electoral victory of Barack Obama in 2008 and according to the co -director and writer Dean, most will not remember that time.
“It was a different moment of what we are now, that I think that a large part of the public who will see this film will not remember that time, then we can tell them a little through the stories we can tell,” said Dean to Thewrap.
“There is a small disposable line when Harper obtains his work and they all party in a bar, and one of the characters casually throws this line of ‘History no longer” happens, added Eldridge. “It was the feeling of the 1990s of the post-war period, the end of the era of history that this generation was a little convinced that they were somehow on this way.”
