Chappell Roan returns in tribute to Brigitte Bardot

Chappell Roan has expressed his regret for paying tribute to French cinema legend Brigitte Bardot after learning of the actress’ many controversies.
The Grammy winner took to Instagram after hearing the news of Bardot’s death on Sunday, revealing in her initial statement that the former sex symbol was the “inspiration” for her song “Red Wine Supernova,” in which she specifically names the actress.
However, after becoming aware of Bardot’s controversial past, including her repeated incitement of racial hatred and her anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric, Roan walked back her tribute.
“Damn I didn’t know all the insane s**t Ms. Bardot stood for,” the singer wrote in a follow-up Instagram Story. “Obviously I don’t condone this. Very disappointing to learn.”
Roan wasn’t the only one to pay tribute to Bardot after his death. In fact, French President Emmanuel Macron also remembered Bardot, who wrote of
The Bardot Foundation confirmed the news of her death on Sunday, writing: “The Brigitte Bardot Foundation pays tribute to the memory of an exceptional woman who gave and gave up everything for a world more respectful of animals. Her legacy endures through the actions and fights that the Foundation pursues with the same passion and loyalty to its ideals.”
She was best known for her acclaimed work in “Contempt” (1963), “…And God Created Woman” (1956) and “Viva Maria!” (1965). She also had a successful singing career.
However, his impact on French cinema was marred later in his life by his vocal support for politically right-wing politicians and parties in France, notably the Front National and the Rassemblement National.
