Channel 4’s Nevine Mabro becomes head of BBC’s Storyville

The BBC’s international documentary strand, Storyville, has a new lead.

Channel 4’s Nevine Mabro has been hired as head of Storyville and will start her new role in January 2026, reports Fiona Campbell, BBC youth audience controller and interim director of Unscripted.

The role was created earlier this year when the BBC cut three other roles on the strand, namely senior commissioner, editor and commissioning coordinator. Emma Hindley left during this restructuring.

Mabro will join the BBC with 25 years of experience in global news and reporting under his belt. At Channel 4 she was an editor specializing in international documentaries and current affairs. As well as commissioning BAFTA, Peabody and Grierson award-winning programmes, she led the long-running project Unreported world component and worked on strengthening digital reach.

Further afield, Mabro held several senior editorial roles at Channel 4 News and produced the Academy Award-nominated documentary around this time. For Samadirected by Waad al-Kateab and Edward Watts. She also produced three international Emmy Award-winning programs on Syria and covered the US elections for Channel 4 News and the Associated Press.
