Carlos Alcaraz loses $ 2.8 million as a potential money bonus with a shocking decision in front of Shanghai Masters

Carlos Alcaraz won a total price up $ 15 million in 2025 only, mainly because of its Grand Slam titles to the Open of France and the US Open. However, with a shocking decision before the Masters of Shanghai, the world No. 1 is likely to lose a potential bonus of $ 2.8 million at the end of the year.
Alcaraz is constantly playing from the Cincinnati Open, which he won by defeating Jannik Sinner in the final. The Spaniard immediately flew to New York for the mixed doubles of the United States, after which he won the title in single during the tournament, beating the sinner again in the final.
The Grand Chelem champion, after a mini-through, then went to was washing Cup in San Francisco, after which he flew to Tokyo for the Japan open, again winning the title with a victory over Taylor Fritz in the final. After these days of whirlwind, Alcaraz and his team finally decided that it was time to give him a little rest, a decision that ends up accompanied by a huge cost.
By taking hours of social networks after the victory against Fritz, Alcaraz revealed that he had decided to jump the Masters of Shanghai – an ATP 1000 event which is compulsory on the calendar.
“I am very disappointed to announce that I will not be able to play the Masters Rolex Shanghai this year! Unfortunately, I had physical problems and, after having discussed with my team, we think that the best decision is to rest and recover,” wrote Alcaraz.
This, unfortunately, marks the tournament of the third Masters 1000, the 22 -year -old is missing this season, after the Madrid Open and the Open of Canada. He missed the two for valid reasons, the first with an injury and the rest to prepare for the opening of the United States after the end of the grass swing.
Although the decision is healthy, it affects ATP bonus pool payments for Masters 1000 events. The male tennis body has a bonus pool of $ 21 million for the 30 best players who have scored the most points at these events, the best player winning $ 3.8 million. For the moment, it was Carlos Alcaraz – who won three this year, the Masters of Monte -Carlo, the Italian Open and the Cincinnati Open.
However, according to the Book of Rules, a player who jumped three masters 1000 tournaments will have to lose 75% of their bonus. The penalty is less if the player had been there and had only to withdraw with an injury suffered just before his games, but this is not the case with Alcaraz. This means that, as things are currently, Alcaraz will potentially lose $ 2.85 million for its decision to jump for compulsory ATP 1000 events.
There is another Masters 1000 event this year – Les Paris Masters. If Carlos Alcaraz decides to jump this, he will have to lose the full money price of the Bonus pool of the ATP 1000 bonus. Currently, second place is occupied by Jack Draper (bonus of 1.9 million dollars possible), followed by Lorenzo Musetti (bonus of $ 1.1 million possible) and Casper Ruud (bonus of $ 955,000).
Unlike Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner has lost all his silver bonus

Similar to Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner has also missed a series of Masters 1000 tournaments this season. But unlike Alcaraz, the world No. 2 should miss its bonus payment.
Due to its suspension of the tour on a positive doping test, the sinner had to miss the compulsory Indian open and the Miami Open, followed by the Madrid Open. Then, he also chose Canada Open, taking his count of up to four missed events. As indicated above, this makes it ineligible for the Bonus of ATP 1000 events this year.
Sinner is currently in action at China Open, where he will face the learner in the final on Wednesday.
