Carlos Alcaraz calls US Open Return by Donald Trump “Great for Tennis” | US Open Tennis 2025

Carlos Alcaraz said that Donald Trump’s presence in the United States final will be “excellent for tennis” while the American president is preparing to attend his first game at Flushing Meadows in a decade.
The 22-year-old Spaniard reached the final on Sunday by beating Novak Djokovic in two sets Friday afternoon at the Arthur Ashe stadium. He will face the reigning champion Jannik Sinner for a sixth title of Grand Chelem and a third in New York.
Alcaraz gave a positive answer when he asked him about Trump’s planned appearance in the final.
“I think it is a privilege for the tournaments to have the president of each country just to support the tournament, support tennis and support the match,” he said. “For me, playing in front of him … I will try not to think about it. I don’t want me to be nervous because of that, but I think that to attend the tennis match, it’s great for tennis to have the president in the final.”
The United States Tennis Association said on Friday that Trump would be invited to a business series inside Ashe.
Trump was once a must in the American open crowd before launching his political career. The Trump organization even maintained a suite adjacent to the broadcast stand, but abandoned it in 2017 during its first year in the White House.
The president has made a series of high -level sports appearances this year. He attended the Super Bowl in New Orleans, Daytona 500 in Florida, UFC cards in Miami and Newark, at the NCAA Championships in Philadelphia and the FIFA World Cup final in the New Jersey, where he made the titles by the Chelsea Fracing Chelsea Trophy.
While Barack and Michelle Obama appeared during the opening evening of the US Open in 2023, the return of Trump of Sunday will mark the first by an exercise president in 25 years, when Bill Clinton participated in the women’s final in 2000.
Alcaraz, who won the US Open for the first time in adolescence in 2022, became the first man to reach the tournament’s final without abandoning a set since Roger Federer in 2015. He said on Friday that even Trump’s presence, who guarantees that the match will wear an unusual political theater even for the Grand Chelem in New York, will not distract him from his goal.
“It’s great for tennis,” said Alcaraz. “But Sunday, my job is to play my best tennis and not let anything else hinder.”
