Carl Froch Clashes With Chris Eubank Sr Over Weight Issues Over Son’s Rematch With Benn: ‘Move On’

The controversial topic of the rehydration weight clause surrounding the Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn fight has resurfaced.
Two of the sport’s best former super middleweights, Carl Froch and Chris Eubank Sr, approach the issue from very different angles, as Eubank Jr prepares to weigh in under the same 160-pound limit for this Saturday’s rematch.
In April, the fighter weighed 160.2 pounds in his first attempt and 160.05 pounds in his second, failing to exceed the 160-pound limit and triggering a £375,000 fine. The next morning, he recorded 169.4 pounds to meet the rehydration limit of 170 pounds. The rematch takes place under the same conditions.
Eubank Sr openly criticized the deal, while Froch, who interviewed Eubank Jr for Sun Sport, urged his fellow champion to “move on” and support his son.
“We saw the first fight and there were no problems… Chris got through the fight, he won the fight… [If he was ‘touch and go’ in the ambulance] It doesn’t sit well with you, as a father, to allow this to continue then, surely. You are here to promote the fight… If you are so attached to this fight and the weight division – which I think you should move away from, I honestly think you should accept the rematch and support your son.
Eubank Sr, however, remains firm in his criticism of the promoters:
“For three years I have been telling you that this fight should not be [happening] because the weights are wrong. I will never be wrong because I follow the rules. So I said everything I had to say. It doesn’t change so I won’t bleat on the same subject. You will see. There will be consequences. Weight dehydration is dangerous.
“I’m always behind my son. What I won’t be behind is the stupidity and incompetence of these promoters. They flout the weight rules and that’s how fighters end up disabled.”
With the fight just days away, Froch also gave his final prediction for the fight.
